damaging winds are possible, in addition to dangerous lightning.
- A High Risk of rip currents is forecast to continue through tonight.

.UPDATE...
Issued at 935 AM EDT Sun Jun 14 2026
No significant changes were needed to the forecast this morning. A
few showers and storms already moved into Taylor and Dixie
Counties this morning from Apalachee Bay, but our greatest chances
for scattered to numerous showers and storms remains mid to late
afternoon into the evening hours across the area. The environment
is supporting of strong wind gusts and locally heavy rain with the
storms today thanks to ample DCAPE and high PWATs. No changes were
needed to the Heat Advisory.
If you`re outdoors, be prepared for the dual threat heat and
storms. Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning and
stay hydrated. And if you hear thunder, move indoors quickly as
lightning can strike up to 10 miles from a storm.

.SHORT TERM...
(Today and Tonight)
Issued at 231 AM EDT Sun Jun 14 2026
Today will be another hot day with widespread highs in the mid 90s
for inland areas this afternoon with heat index values peaking
near 108F across the eastern Florida panhandle as well as far
southern Georgia. Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms
are also expected across the area later this afternoon, most
likely across south central Georgia and the Florida big bend. The
main forcing mechanisms for thunderstorms are the seabreeze, a
weak pre-frontal surface trough from the north, and subsequent
outflow boundary collisions. Precipitable water values near 2
inches will also allow for locally heavy rain with the storms that
develop.
For tonight, storms will decrease in coverage after sunset with
muggy overnight lows ranging from the mid 70s inland to upper 70s
along the coast.
&&
.LONG TERM...
(Monday through Saturday)
Issued at 231 AM EDT Sun Jun 14 2026
The main story for much of the upcoming work week continues to
look like a wetter pattern thanks to an upper level trough north
of us pushing a slow moving frontal boundary towards the Gulf
coast. The presence of a frontal boundary with preciptable water
values above 2 inches suggests the threat for locally heavy
rainfall. Our western areas are more vulnerable to flooding
compared to our eastern areas given recent heavy rains in this
area in May.
Even after the frontal feature dissipates on Wednesday, continued
southerly to southwesterly flow will keep muggy conditions in
place across the region with daily rain chances continuing
through the end of the forecast period. The elevated rain chances
will help put a break in the heat, with high temperature returning
to the upper 80s to low 90s through the middle and end of the
week.

.AVIATION...
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 124 PM EDT Sun Jun 14 2026
Scattered TSRA is beginning to develop near the terminals, and
will likely continue through the afternoon hours. The highest
chances are from ECP-ABY eastward, where prevailing VCTS with
TEMPO TSRA have been included. DHN has PROB30s as the TSRA is
develop just east of the terminal, moving east. Gusty, erratic
winds and frequent lightning are possible with the strongest
storms. SHRA/TSRA should wind down after 00z near the terminals.
Patchy fog is possible tonight in areas that receive rain, but
confidence is too low to include in the TAFs. TSRA looks to get an
early start Monday, so have included VCTS near the end of the
period for ECP, DHN, and TLH.
&&
.MARINE...
Issued at 229 PM EDT Sat Jun 13 2026
Gentle to moderate west to southwest breezes prevail the next few
days with surface high pressure anchored across the Central Gulf.
Daily afternoon seabreezes slightly enhance the onshore flow
across the nearshore legs and bay waters. The highest forecast
rain chances are currently Tuesday and Wednesday when a frontal
boundary sags into the Deep South. Maritime convection will pose a
gusty wind, frequent lightning, a waterspout threat. Winds turn
more southerly mid to late week.
&&
.FIRE WEATHER...
Issued at 231 AM EDT Sun Jun 14 2026
The main fire concerns the next couple days are hot daytime
temperatures, high afternoon dispersions, and scattered to
numerous afternoon showers and thunderstorms. The latter will
pose lightning and gusty-erratic wind hazards. An increasingly
wetter pattern takes shape early this upcoming work week when a
stagnant front sags south. High rain chances are forecast with
wetting rains on the table. West to SW winds prevail in addition
to daily afternoon seabreezes.
&&
.HYDROLOGY...
Issued at 231 AM EDT Sun Jun 14 2026
Locally heavy downpours are expected within any showers and storms
that develop this afternoon.
For Monday through Wednesday, a marginal to slight to risk of
flash flooding continues to be a concern, mainly across the
western and northern halves of the area. A slow moving frontal
boundary coupled with high preciptable water values is expected to
result in multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms with
locally heavy rain. The western portions of the forecast area have
already been especially wet from rainfall in May and are much
more vulnerable to flash flooding than the eastern portions of the
forecast area.
In the meantime, it`s been a very dry start to June for some
areas. The Tallahassee area is currently tied for the 2nd driest
start to June on record with only 0.02 inches of rain so far at
the airport through the first 13 days of the month. Severe to
exceptional drought continues for areas generally east of the
Apalachicola and Flint Rivers as these areas missed out on the
most beneficial recent rains. The drought features long term
impacts that are affecting rivers, lakes, and ponds that are still
below normal despite recent rains. For more information on local
drought impacts, please visit
